It seems that my Dear Son shared his cold with me. I felt so awful that I didn't get the mail (which i live for) for 3 days.
When I did go through the pile, what a surprise. My box from my Hurricane Sock Party Pal. A wonderful Jaywalker sock, using STR yarn. I don't know if I'll be able to duplicate it. It was so well done. The box was overflowing with other goodies too! A cocktail shaker (someone has been talking), beautiful Gloss yarn from KnitPicks, a candle, a sachet, drink mix, Rockin note cards, sweet post it notes, a dip mix, and a cute sented flip flop with bling (can't wait to put that in my car), and a cool pedicure kit. Nicole you are the best. It just so happens that I'll be in Orlando in July. We should meet to have a drink and knit.
I am working on the Prosperous Plum Tank and it is turning out well. I like it so much I can envision frogging it and re-knitting as I loose weight.
Loosing weight is moving to the front burner. If we are going to be moving so far south soon, I want to be able to sit and not sweat to death. Being more healthy will be a nice side effect too! Talking last night with Love of MY Life, we both thought that this move is a chance to remake ourselves. Like Madonna always does.

Far, Far Behind
It seems that I do not do well under pressure! My sock for the Hurricane Sock Party is not finished and the first day of Hurricane season was Friday. I will be finished by this Friday, however I can only hope that my pal doesn't experience one before then.
In other news My darling daughter made it home from South Africa safe and sound with some incredible experiences under her belt.
The business acquisition is not going at all smoothly. My new mantra is that nothing worthwhile is easy.

Covered in Paint
Well we spent this weekend helping our Darling Daughter and her BF painting their new home. We finished the kitchen, hall, dining room, office and living room. That leaves them two bedrooms to do on their own. Darling Daughter and I un-packed and put away many boxes.
There were a few instances of excitement as Darling Daughters JRT Trouble walked through the paint tray. That resulted in an unplanned bath for him.
On knitting news, I have missed 3 meet ups in a row. Last night it was because I had to help my parents pack items that are being auctioned. They are moving in a month and are selling a lot of the antiques and crystal that they have collected over the years. I was able to work on the Moss Grid Hand Towel from Mason Dixon. I am using Flaxen by Buzzy Yarns. It is a Linen/Acrylic/Lurex blend in the color 304 wheat. It is turning out quite nice. I am hooked on these women. Last week I finished the Asorba, The Great Bathmat. I used four colors of Peaches and Cream so that each strip was different. It is awesome. I plan to make several more. It was quick and easy. The perfect thing to knit while socializing or watching TV. The big plan this week is to start my sock for my Hurricane Sock Party Pal. I haven't seen her questionnaire, but have purchased a beautiful yarn(Fortissima Socka) and chosen a pattern from Favorite Socks 25 Timeless Designs from Interweave. I think she will be pleased. Her skills are better than mine, however from reading her blog I think she will appreciate the pattern and the beauty of the yarn.
The big excitement around here lately is that we have entered into negotiations to purchase a business in Key West. The whole process is so nerve wracking. The scary part is selling two homes (I hate having to make the FAKE house), a business here and relocating all while trying to take over another business that we have no experience in. Oh and to have it all go smoothly. Possible? Lets hope so. This will be life changing for all of us. I have been a stay at home mom for almost 20 years. I'm not sure that I can start a new career at 41. I'm terrified, excited, apprehensive, happy, sad. Oh no is this menopause? I haven't slept in a month since this all came about. I have always wanted to live in Key West. Last year we purchased a condo and I thought we would retire there. This is all happening way sooner than I thought it would. I guess that is how opportunities happen.

Hurricane Questionaire
Ok here it goes...
2. My pets would say... The woman is a nut, but we like her that way. She cooks for us from scratch. Our mom never makes us do anything we don't want to except spa day. She thinks because she likes to go to the spa that we want baths, pedicures, and our ears and teeth cleaned.
Mom sacrifices for us. She will stop cleaning or cooking or doing laundry to sit on the sofa with us in her lap. We let he knit so she thinks it is her idea. She is well trained.
3. My favorite hurricane snack is trail mix with choc.
4. Sock patterns usually fit, I do not modify much.
4a. 9" from heel to toe, 8.5" around.
5. I would visit any city or small town in Ireland. My ancestors are from there and I have always been entranced by the place.
6. I only wear socks during the winter, I like regular height.
7. During our last power outage (18 hours) I knit all day, then by lantern. It helped to keep me warm as it was snowing and well below 0 degrees.
8. I have only knit one pair of socks, and have one on the needles. I am a new sock knitter, so would be happy with any.
9. I so love wearing and showing off the socks I knit that I want to do more.
10. I'd love socks made from any yarn, I love all colors too!! I wear a lot of jeans.
11. My favorite needles are from Lantern Moon and Brittany. My first pair of socks were knit on size 5s the pair on the needles are size 3. I use DPN.
12. If I could take 3 books and one completed item when I evacuate it would be my Mohair afghan, and Knitting for Dummies, Sally Melville's The Knit Stitch, And Yarn Play. I did say I was a new knitter, self taught too.
13. I just purchased a swift, so I'm cool.
14. I love The Closer & Shark.
15. Any sock, I am not picky.
16. On a hot night with power having been off for 2 days, I'd crave vanilla ice cream for something sweet.
17. We were on vacation in Myrtle Beach and were ordered to evacuate. We decided to head west since the storm was headed north and that's where we live. It took 10 hours to get from Myrtle Beach to Ashville. No hotel rooms for 100 miles. We ended up in Hot Springs ,NC. We had cabins on the river, a campfire area, hot springs to lounge in, and everything you need for a beach vacation and nothing for a mountain trip. It was 2 hours to the nearest Walmart for jeans, blankets, camp stove, pillows, ect. We were able to salvage our vacation. We returned home to a flooded basement that had to be gutted and refinished. Now every time we head out our kids think we are having an adventure. It seems we have had our share!
18. I swore last year that we would get a generator. We got one for the last ice storm so we are set.
19. I love natural colors, nothing too bright. The colors of the sea, beach ,shells.

It's My Birthday and I'll Cry if I Want to
Actually I don't feel like crying. It's no so bad this turning 41.
I was supposed to go to dinner at my sisters yesterday and have birthday cake, however I felt awful so I stayed home. We are having dinner tomorrow (leftovers) instead. Last year the Love of My Life gave me a surprise party bless him. I didn't cooperate and he had to fight me every step of the way. I was happy after I figured out what he had done. This year I am happy to just be home. I will spend a quiet evening as Love has to work. You see Love and I have never made a big to do about birthday's or anniversaries. Everyday we have with each other is special. I don't mean to sound mushy, we just really enjoy each others company.
I grew up not celebrating my birthday until after April 15, I come from and accountant and a homemaker. When I was very young my mom planned the party and did all the work, as I grew older we just postponed the party until we could have a family dinner. I always made a big deal of birthdays until my kids were old enough to decide what they wanted to do. Usually they just choose to have dinner with the family followed by their favorite desert. They choose the restaurant or meal for me to cook.
In knitting news.. I must fill our must fill out my questionnaire for my pal in the hurricane sock club. I am 1/2 way finished my cabled rug from Simple Knits for Sophisticated Living, and almost 1/2 finished the tank from One Skein.
I also borrowed a digital camera from my mom so I can post pictures. Yay!

Hurricane Sock Party 2007
I received my match last night. I can't wait to start knitting.I purchased yarn and a pattern, but am waiting to CO until I see my pal's questionnaire.
I have a new foster a cutie pie Japanese Chin named Mindy. We sprung her from a life of misery as a puppy mill breeder. She is 8 months old so they never had a chance to breed her. Thank goodness. She goes to be spayed tomorrow.
We also may be relocating within the next few weeks, more on that front later. Still in the Hurricane zone. Not to worry, I'll still be legal to participate in the HSP.
Gotta run, See ya later!

Hurricane Sock Party 2007
In getting ready for HSP2007 I have been busily shopping. What fun to shop for gifts.
I also took my latest foster Lola to her forever home. It is so bittersweet saying goodbye. On one hand I know she will be so happy as the companion of a teenager, on the other I will miss her cuddles and antics.
It is quiet here now. If you consider having 1 Mastiff, 2 Pugs and an African Gray Parrot, and one teenaged boy quiet.
Other knitting news.. I finished a scarf that has been hanging around forever, and a dishcloth for my daughter. That gave me permission to cast on for another spa cloth, pillow cover, and socks.

Strange Weekend
What I thought would be a calm quiet weekend. Hmm... The Son went snowboarding with friends(he turned 16 on Sunday), the Daughter was with her BF all weekend, Hubby practiced music and worked, and two fosters went to forever homes. It's was just me and the four fur boy's. Sort of quiet but strange. T, my brother in law came for dinner on Sunday. He even commented on how weird it was withour a houseful of TEENS. I guess we had better get used to it. The Daughter is moving out in 2 weeks, she and BF are buying a house. More on that later.
Me? I had a facial on Saturday. YUM!! and knitted the rest of the weekend away. I finished a sleeve of the fairisle project for my class at All About Yarn. I now have the back and one sleeve. I must finish the other sleeve and the front by 2/18. I'm sure my right shoulder will be in major pain. I love how the sweater is turning out though. I have also signed up for a finishing class. I am such a crappy finisher that I don't finish anything. I have five projects to be finished!
I'm off to run errands and hopefully by a digital camera so that I can add photo's to my posts.
